The Taishan Academic Forum - International Conference on Cognitive Neuroscience and Brain Diseases was Held by WFMU

WFMU continues reforming and composing a new chapter in newera.  From January 11th to 13th, theTaishan Academic Forum, the International Conference on Cognitive Neuroscienceand Brain Diseases was hold at WFMU, which was hosted by the Department ofEducation Shandong Province  and undertakenby WFMU. President of WFMU, Prof. Guan Yingjun attended theopening ceremony and delivered a welcome speech. Vice President of WFMU,Prof. Sun Hongwei attended the academic forum, and VicePresident of WFMU, Liu Jun presided over the opening ceremony.  Mr.Wang Gang,theDistinguished Guest Overseas Taishan Scholars of WFMU and as professor at theUniversity of Kagoshima, Japan, spoke at the opening ceremony.

Experts and scholars attended the forum ,includingfrom  the Center of Brain Research of theJapanese Institute of Physical Chemistry, the University of Kagoshima, Japan,Kyoto University, Washington University, Henry Ford Hospital of the UnitedStates , the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Peking University, ZhejiangUniversity, Shandong University, Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy ofSciences, South China Normal University , Shanghai University of Science and Technology, Qingdao University,Shandong First Medical University and Shandong Provincial Hospital. 

At the opening ceremony, Guan Yingjundelivered a warm speech. She introduced that the WFMU was established in 1951and is a high-level distinctive medical university with a completeundergraduate, master's and doctoral degree. Distinguished Alumnus includesthree academicians :Xie Lixin, Yu Jinming from Chinese Academy ofEngineering  and Wang Rui from theCanadian Academy of Medical Sciences . Since the establishing of WFMU ,in the past 68 years, WFMU has followedthe concept of “cultivating people with ethics and cultivating people by heart”and integrating medical ethics and humanities education into the whole processof talent cultivation, and has cultivated a large number of medical staff withpassion, spirit and generosity received well by society.

Guan Yingjun pointed out that since the late 1980s, theresearch of cognitive neuroscience has made remarkable progress in a shortperiod of time and has become one of the research hotspots in the globalacademic community.  With the growing of socialage population, brain disease and brain health have become an important issuein China and the world. The 21st century is bound to become the century ofbrain research.  There  are a series of international leading academiclectures on the basic topics of cognitive neuroscience and brain diseases inthe forum. It will play an important role in expanding the academic exchangesand cooperation between WFMU and domestic and foreign experts, promoting thedevelopment of disciplines and improving the quality of talent training.

In his speech, Professor Wang Gang brieflyintroduced the general situation, theme and basic content of this internationalconference, and thanked WFMU for its support and efforts.  He said that he believes this TaishanAcademic Forum will greatly promote the exchanges and cooperation of theparticipants and contribute to the academic research on the basics of cognitiveneuroscience and brain diseases in Shandong Province and even the wholecountry.

After the opening ceremony, well-knownoverseas experts and scholars, high-level talents such as the National-Thousand-Talents-Program,National Jieqing, National Youqing and Taishan Scholars made  18 reports on visual cognition in the brainaround the theme of “Cognitive Neuroscience and Brain Disease Foundation”. The18 reports  includes model research,neural mechanism of object cognition, intracerebral mechanism of visualcognition, relationship between orexin cells and emotions, relationship betweensatisfaction and dopamine system, pathogenesis and prevention of Parkinson'sdisease, pathogenesis of brain injury, nuclear magnetic  Resonance functional brain imaging in theapplication of brain diseases, depression and prevention and treatment ofAlzheimer's disease, the relationship between spinal cord injury and brainactivity, the latest development of clinical pharmacy .Other scholars has doneacademic exchanges in the form of Conference Theory.  Experts have extensively exchanged anddiscussed in depth the international academic frontier issues and latestdevelopments in cognitive neuroscience, brain disease basics and clinicalresearch.  The atmosphere of the reportwas warm and there was an interactive Q&A session,which benefited the participants. 

The Taishan Academic Forum is based on the constructionof “Taishan Scholars”project. It promotes academic exchanges and scientific andtechnological cooperation with academic lectures, and builds an academichighland of discipline integration and talent gathering. Its aim is to providepowerful talents support for the realization of the rich and powerfulprovinces. This Taishan Academic Forum organized by WFMU ,which promotesexchanges and cooperation in the fields of cognitive neuroscience and braindisease research, and promotes the discipline construction and serving for the economyand society with high quality development.

Nearly 300 people attended the conference,including well-knownscholars from the field of cognitive neuroscience and brain disease basicresearch in China and abroad, experts and teachers from various universities,research institutes, medical institutions, and directors of relevant teachingor research department of WFMU, academic backbones and student representativesfrom various affiliated hospitals .
