Recently,Dr.Sun Xiaodong, Department of Endocrinology, Affiliated Hospital of WFMU, was once again invited to participate in the 54th EASD Annual Meeting to give aspecial speech, titled as The mechanism of action ofliraglutide on vascular protection of perivascular fat in obesestate, and hold on-site discussions with the experts at the meeting.

EASD is one of thehighest international academic conferences in the world of diabetes research.Each EASD conference, there is only 10% chance to deliver a special speech. Dr.Sun Xiaodong has been invited to participate in academic seminars for sixconsecutive times .It is the only one Chinese scholar selected to make aspeech  in 2015.  Dr. Sun Xiaodong's research elucidated thecardiovascular protective effect of the hypoglycemic drug glucagon-likepeptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist from a new perspective of adipose tissue,and explored the GLP-1 receptor agonist Lilaru. Peptides improve vascular dysfunction in obese states by regulatingperivascular adipose tissue function, and further demonstrate the role ofperivascular adipose tissue in cardiovascular disease, revealing a new targetfor cardiovascular protection of liraglutide. This achievement provides a newtheoretical basis and therapeutic clues for the clinical transformation of theworld's endocrine field, and is expected to help tens of millions of obesepatients to alleviate the pain of cardiovascular disease.

Previously, the endocrinology researchteam of the affiliated hospital began a series of studies on the prevention andtreatment of obesity and diabetes-related vascular diseases from the key targetof metabolic diseases, adipose tissue research. The research results werepublished in SCI journals for more than 20 articles. Project team members,including graduate students, have been invited to participate in the EASD annualmeeting for exchanges, which are highly valued by domestic and foreign experts.The results won the second prize of Shandong University Science and TechnologyAward and the second prize of Shandong Medical Science and Technology Award,and completed clinical application in a number of top Three-Class A hospitals.Each year, national-level continuing education was held for academic promotion,and cultivated 500 students from junior grade.
